Roundabout upgrade not likely to relieve congestion
I am very sceptical that the upgrade being carried out at the roundabout at Maitland Bay Dr and Memorial Ave will provide much relief to the congestion at the intersection.
Plans as I see them do not properly address the issue.
The rock wall on Blackwall Mountain has been cut back to allow an additional lane for traffic turning right from Maitland Bay Dr into Gallipoli Ave.
This was never a problem as little traffic heads this way at the moment.
There remains one lane from Memorial Ave turning left into Maitland Bay Drive (from Woy Woy).
This does not alleviate the confusion already experienced by traffic coming out of Maitland Bay Dr, turning either left or right.
That is the main cause of traffic holdups at that roundabout in both Barrenjoey Rd and Maitland Bay Dr.
Why on earth did they not provide a dedicated lane for traffic from Woy Woy turning left onto Maitland Bay Dr?
Also, by banning right turns from Memorial Rd into Gallipoli Ave it will only cause traffic wishing to turn there to continue into the roundabout to come back to Gallipoli Ave.
I really can't see much benefit from these roadwords.
