New format for academic reports explained
Umina Beach Public School has explained a new format for academic reports which have been emailed to parents and are available through the Parent Portal.
"The new format has been developed by the NSW Department of Education in response to feedback from parents and educators to make reports easier to read and understand," said school principal Ms Karen Wardlaw.
"Teacher comments have been modified in line with department policy and will be provided for English, mathematics and the general comment section.
"For Kindergarten students, the general comment for Kindergarten also provides a short statement on all other key learning areas including, creative arts, HSIE, PDHPE, and science and technology.
"Achievement and effort scales have been updated, in line with department policy, and an overview is included on the first page of the report to describe scales.
She said that, while reporting on effort was not mandatory, the school would continue to include student effort in academic reports, to provide a clearer picture of students' progress.
"Parent-teacher interviews remain an important way to discuss a child's progress and achievement in more detail."
After parents received their child's report, they were welcome to contact their child's class teacher if they wished to make an appointment to discuss their report, she said.
"To ensure parents and carers undertand the new report template, we have provided a video overview for you."
Paper copy of the academic reports were also available from the school.
