St John's parish relinquishes bingo

The St John the Baptist parish finance committee has announced it has relinquished running bingo on the Peninsula after 71 years.

"There have been many changes since Dr Walter Baker set it up back in 1954.

"In that time, Housie has been run in three different locations with many dedicated volunteers.

"It is now time for the Parish to pass the baton."

Disabilities charity Fairhaven at Point Clare has taken on Saturday night Housie, in addition to its current charity housie.

"Saturday night Housie is an integral part of the Peninsula and we want to see it continue," the committee stated.

The committee acknowledged volunteers including Mr Rob Graham who has been promoter for 27 years, Ms Kiara Gapps, Ms Colleen Sharpe, Mr Luke Renehan, Ms Rosie Leek and Ms Sue French, who is retiring from Housie after 38 years.

"Most of the volunteers will continue on with Fairhaven," according to the committee.
