Consider the communications brigade
The Pearl Beach brigade has suggested that people consider joining "the communications brigade" in the Rural Fire Service if they would prefer not to be on the fire line or in the field.
"You could consider helping to manage and support operations as part of the Communications Brigade.
Based at Charmhaven Fire Control, the Central Coast Communications Brigade provides the crucial link between the incident controller on the fire ground and fire control, passing on vital operational information.
The brigade controls communication for 55 Rural Fire Service brigades within the district which extends along the coast and hinterland from the southern edge of Newcastle to the Hawkesbury River, just under 2000 square kilometres.
Its role includes to despatch and monitor our fire vehicles using radios and advanced technology (both in its room and in vehicles), monitor fires, floods and other incidents and liaise with other services.
