Joyce Tee dies aged 104

Long time Peninsula resident Ms Vera Joyce Tee (Nash) has died at the age of 104 and eight months on August 20.

Joyce, as she preferred to be called, was born in Canowindra NSW in 1919.

One of nine children, she was the youngest daughter but the middle child.

"Joyce and her husband Reg moved to Umina Beach in 1964 to provide two of their four children with a career," said daughter-in-law Ms Susan Tee.

"Their son Colin passed away in 1980 and she lost her husband Reg in 1993.

"She is survived by her three children, daughter Zoane and sons Frank and Don, and six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren."

Ms Susan Tee said that in recent years she became known as "Joice", after she checked her birth certificate to get a passport and found that her name was spelt as Joice.

"Her actual Christian name was Vera after Auntie Vera but she never used it.

"Joyce was a stalwart of the Ettalong Uniting Church and still attended regularly on a Sunday morning, until Covid prevented the Church services.

"She loved a chat, enjoyed colouring in and word puzzles.

"She always loved having friends and family come visit."

"Joyce still lived in her own home until October last year when she moved into BlueWave Living in Woy Woy."

Joyce was their oldest resident while she was there - "her claim to fame!"

A Thanksgiving for Joyce will be held at 2pm on Sunday, September 22, at the Uniting Church, Umina.

A tribute in the church newsletter said: "Joice Tee was a wonderful feisty lady, the heart and soul of Ettalong Uniting Church.

"Over the years she served as an elder, was president of the Ladies Fellowship and served on the Property Committee.

"She drove herself to church each Sunday and, when it was time to stop driving, she was picked up by a number of people.

"On her 100th birthday, the Ettalong church purchased two beautiful vases of flowers to grace the church in her memory, now in porch at Umina.

"Eventually she became too frail to venture out and the Grapevine newsletter was delivered to her each week so she could catch up on the news.

"A number of people visited her regularly, enjoying arguing with her over her strongly held views.

"Joice was a wonderful Christian lady and we mourn her passing."

A graveside burial service was to be held at Canowindra and
