New varroa mite detection in Woy Woy zone
A new detection of varroa mite "in the Woy Woy red zone" brings the number of infested premises to 152, according to the Department of Primary Industry.
"The new detections have resulted in only a slight extension at the south eastern edge of the zone and will impact a small number of beekeepers," according to a social media post by the department.
"There is a corresponding extension of the surveillance (purple) zone into the Northern Beaches of Sydney, also impacting a small number of beekeepers.
"The new detections, close to existing infested premises, are a result of comprehensive surveillance activities, which form a critical part of the response as we work towards eradication of varroa mite."
