Rotarian visits village near Kokoda Track
Brisbane Water Rotarian Ms Sue Huntley works with the Hepatitis B Free organisation.
"She travels with others to vaccinate and provide basic health clinics for villages in Papua New Guinea and other Pacific countries," said club publicity officer Ms Sue O'Neill.
"Recently Sue returned to Popondetta, in the Oro Province, a village visited by the Hepatitis B Free team on three occasions since 2013.
"A beautiful village of 600 residents, it has no running water or electricity and is part of the Barai Community, which consists of multiple villages with a total of about 6000 residents.
"This village is close to the Kokoda Track.
"To reach it, you must cross the track as you walk from the closest air strip in Itokama, a 13km walk as there are no roads.
"Alternatively, you could walk from Afore, four days on foot as this is the closest community with a shop and where the road from Popondetta ends."
