Rotary club hears from Local Member

Member for Gosford Ms Leisl Tesch was guest speaker at the Rotary club of Woy Woy last week.

"Many of you would know Leisl either by reputation or having met her at many of the events she attends," said club president Ms Julie Jones.

"I was aware of how busy she is in her work and volunteer duties, supporting so many groups and events, but it wasn't until I read the articles on the internet that I was aware of what a truly amazing lady she is.

"She became an incomplete paraplegic after a mountain bike accident at the age of 19.

"Ms Tesch competed in Australian wheelchair basketball team at five Paralympics, winning three medals, and was the first woman to play the sport professionally.

"She took up sailing in 2010, winning gold medals at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Paralympics with partner Daniel Fitzgibbon.

"She was elected the Member for Gosford at the 2017 Gosford State by-election."
