Excursion to Rumbalara Reserve

Year 1 students at Umina Beach Public School have had an excursion to Rumbalara Reserve in Gosford.

Teacher Ms Sarah Honeyman said the excursion was part of the geography topic Local Places and Spaces.

"We began the day at the top of the reserve where we looked out over an amazing view of some waterways, East Gosford and Woy Woy," she said.

"We discussed with our guides, the natural and built features that we could see.

"We then went on an adventurous bushwalk down the mountain.

"Along the way we examined the native flora, made stick puzzles, discussed how the bush needed fire to rejuvenate and investigated how the aboriginal people used the bush to suit their needs.

"We also had the opportunity to design and build aboriginal gunyas and investigate animal shelters on a fun treasure hunt.

"We were all very tired on the bus ride back to school."
