Aged care resident pays surprise visit for 94th birthday

A resident of a local aged care facility has surprised his wife for her 94th birthday after being apart for over three months.

Peninsula Village resident Mr Bill Bartlett had been separated from his wife, Betty, since March.

Bill was admitted into Jack Aldous House at Peninsula Villages in 2019 while Betty still lived at the family home.

Betty had health issues and, when the coronavirus social restrictions began, it became difficult for the married couple to reunite.

However, with the improvement of Betty's health and the easing of social restrictions, Bill decided to take the opportunity to be at his wife's side for her birthday.

"Bill had been a little sad last week knowing that it was his wife's birthday coming up and he wasn't going to be able to spend it with her," said Peninsula Villages chief executive Mr Shane Neaves.

"Our team put the plans in place to take Bill to Betty for a visit.

"Before now they had never spent this long apart in 73 years of marriage."
