Donations for Mary Mac's Place

Peninsula residents donated more than $1000 to Mary Mac's Christmas Food Drive.

The food drive was held throughout December at Deepwater Plaza butcher's shop, Nev and Jim's Butchery.

Staff at the butchery collected cash donations totalling $1176, which the butchery then converted into vouchers for Mary Mac's Place to use to purchase fresh meat produce for its community kitchen.

Owner and manager of, Mr Neville Doak, said the generosity of locals has been "overwhelming and extremely heart-warming, with some locals donating more than $50".

"No doubt taking from their own Christmas grocery and fresh meat budgets," she said.

"Helping those in need by facilitating this drive for Mary Mac's has been very gratifying for myself and the team," Ms Doak added.

Mary Mac's manager Ms Catherine Pantehis said the meat donations allowed Mary Mac's to deliver nutritious meals to those who need them.

Mary Mac's provides hot lunches Monday to Friday to those on the Peninsula needing a helping hand.

They also provide essential services like washing and shower facilities.

"Often people will visit purely for social inclusion as they live in isolation.

"Mary Mac's Place is not funded.

"We rely on donations or grants to provide this service to our community and this donation is much appreciated," Ms Pantehis said.
