School holds Cook for my Parents evening
Woy Woy Public School held a Cook for my Parents evening for students in Years 3 to 6 as part of the school's kitchen garden program.
"What an incredible feat it is for our students to be able to cook for and dine with their parents," said principal Ms Ona Buckley.
"Over two nights (November 7 and 8), our school showcased what we do as part of our kitchen garden program.
"Using healthy fresh food recipes, produce grown in our vegetable gardens and orchard were picked, prepared and expertly plated up by our students, for their parents to eat and enjoy.
"The food was delicious.
"Thirteen different dishes were made ranging from entrees, mains and deserts and included spring rolls, baked cauliflower pieces in breadcrumbs, pumpkin soup with homemade focaccia bread, Asian noodles, bolognaise sauce and pasta, green chicken curry with rice, custard pies, bread and butter pudding, battered fried apples and berry pudding.
"Over the two nights, 1456 plates were served to our parents.
"How incredible," Ms Buckley said.
"Parents also enjoyed dinner games of trivia, coin toss and some auctions for some wonderful donated gifts and vouchers.
"Mrs Lina Williamson ran the cooking component of our kitchen/garden program.
"Volunteers and staff gave up their out of hours' time to make sure everyone enjoyed a special night.
"How proud were our students being able to show off their culinary skills to parents and carers.
"The learning of sustainability practices and being directly involved in living and eating healthily are lifelong lessons for all our students," Ms Buckley concluded.
