Pretty Beach to be in traffic reduction pilot program
Pretty Beach Public School will be participating in a Walk, Ride, Share pilot program during Term 3 to help reduce traffic congestion.
The program aims to reduce traffic congestion around schools during peak times, by encouraging students to walk, cycle, carpool or catch public transport to and from school.
The school believes the Walk Ride Share, Reduce School Traffic Program can assist in achieving a 25 per cent reduction in traffic over a two-week period.
The pilot program, organised by the Barker Ryan Stewart infrastructure consultancy, will be held from Monday, August 21, to Friday, September 1.
The goal of the program is to create a two week national car holiday.
Some of the great benefits of the program include: reducing traffic congestion on roads and around school zones; creating faster commutes to and from workplaces for the local community; encouraging walking or cycling to be the transport mode of choice for short trips; encouraging children and families to include regular exercise into their daily routine; promoting road safety awareness; and environmental benefits through reducing air-polluting emissions.
