Public assets recognised
Gosford Council has changed the proposed zoning of two publicly-owned sites on the Peninsula following submissions from government agencies.
Council resolved to zone 99 Osborne Ave, Umina, as SP2 Infrastructure in response to a submission from Energy Australia requesting zoning reflect major infrastructure, rather than public recreation.
The Paul Landa Reserve in Green Point Rd, Pearl Beach, was zoned RE1 Public Recreation following a submission from Land and Property Management Authority requesting the land be recognised in its role as a public asset.
Council staff commented that the land was originally proposed for an R2 residential zoning.
However, this lot was acquired in 1988 using the Coastal Lands Protection Scheme Fund and has been in the care, control and management of Council since 1989.
"As it was acquired for coastal purposes the proposed R2 residential zoning is inappropriate," the staff commented.
"Furthermore the parcel has remnant vegetation on it and appears as a natural part of the existing Paul Landa Park."
