Recycling tours organised

Two tours have been organised on the Peninsula to coincide with National Recycling Week from November 9 to 15.

Gosford Council has planned an op shop tour that will include retail outlets in Woy Woy on Thursday, November 12.

The bus tour will start from 9.30am and pass through op shops in Green Point, Kincumber and Woy Woy before finishing up at 2pm.

Pickup and drop off for the tour is from Gosford council's administration building in Mann St, Gosford.

Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Gosford council's environmental education officer Ms Maree Whelan said the tours provide an opportunity to discover treasures, find some great bargains and do something to help the environment.

"The Op Shops Tours are an innovative way for people to think about recycling and a great opportunity to discover hidden treasures at bargain prices," Ms Whelan said.

"There will be great giveaways and a professional stylist will be present to give fashion advice, help source the treasures and advise participants on what works for them.

"The aim of the tours is to have fun learning about pre-loved clothing and find out simple ways we can all help our environment.

"Remember one person's trash is another person's treasure."

Bookings are essential as numbers are limited and can be made by contacting Emma Willis on 4325 8222 before November 6.

Meanwhile a waste and recycling tour will take place on November 10 for local residents to see where and how local landfills work, how green waste is processed and find out more about the latest recycling technologies.

The tour will visit Woy Woy Landfill and ANL facility before finishing up at the Thiess Recycling Education Centre in Somersby.

Participants will be picked up from Gosford Library at 9am followed by a second pick-up point at Woy Woy Library from 9.30am.

Participants will be returned to the pick-up locations by 2pm.

Bookings are essential and can be made by calling 1300 126 278.
