Anti-bullying at St John's

St John the Baptist Primary School, Woy Woy, has implemented an anti-bullying program for all classes.

This complements the school's Behaviours Program and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Curriculum, according to family liaison officer Ms Beth Riley.

Various forms of bullying will be the focus of the program throughout Terms 3 and 4.

"It has been identified that young bullies grow up to be bullying adults unless there is some form of intervention," Ms Riley said.

"And it is not just the bullies and victims who are affected but other people around them are distracted, intimidated and upset.

"Bullying in the classroom prevents students from learning and teachers from teaching."

A parent video evening will be organised to allow parents to view and discuss forms of bullying, to have a shared understanding of what bullying is and how to allow both school and home to work together.

"With this program being implemented, the aim is to prevent and empower our school community against such behaviours," Ms Riley said.

The Peer Support Program will also educate children about "anti-bullying".

The program will be led by staff and Year 6 students throughout Term 3.
