Campaign to raise funds for chemotherapy

A campaign to raise funds for an Ettalong boy's chemotherapy has reached a fifth of its goal.

The campaign was launched in June to assist Ms Jodie Pethebridge raise the funds needed to treat her 10-year-old son Cambell's Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

It was started by family friend Ms Tammy Mitchell and has since raised just under $2000 of its $10,000 target.

"On Tuesday, June 6, this year my dear friend Jodie was informed that the lump which was removed from her 10-year-old son's neck was positive for Hodgkin's Lymphoma," Ms Mitchell wrote.

"Jodie's youngest son Cambell is now starting his battle against cancer and will be requiring chemotherapy.

"Since that day they have been travelling back and forth from Ettalong to Westmead Children's Hospital, through the support of school teachers, friends and family for transport in order for Cambell to receive the necessary testing that is needed before he undergoes chemo.

"Jodie is a single mother of four boys, Braydon, Jaik, Jessi and Cambell.

"Jodie was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 19 which caused her to have several medical treatments, including brain surgery, and she is now unable to drive herself.

"Before her diagnosis was deemed severe, Jodie had a major car accident when Cambell was a baby which caused severe injuries to both her and her son," Ms Mitchell continued.

"Through this accident Cambell also received a brain injury, which he receives ongoing professional treatment for.

"Cambell has been a battler from the start," Ms Mitchell wrote.

Ms Mitchell also wrote in the campaign how the family was also still reeling from the sudden loss of the Jaik and Jessi's father who lost his battle with cancer just seven weeks after being diagnosed in late 2016.

"Adam O'Neill was a great father to his boys and had long term goals for them to succeed in life, especially in footy like he did," Ms Mitchell wrote.

"Adam was diagnosed with aggressive cancer and was given approximately 12 months to live.

"Unfortunately, he only made it through seven weeks after diagnosis which gave him only a short period of time with his boys.

'No one was expecting him to pass so suddenly.

"There has been a lot of support from friends, family and the community to ensure Adam and Jodie's boy's make it to sporting events and continue accomplishing their dreams.

"I thank everyone who has taken the time to read this and am asking the community to get behind Jodie and her boys.

"All the funding will go towards any medical, travel and household expenses.

"Jodie's family and I would be grateful for any donations," Ms Mitchell concluded.
