Students to take part in international assessment

Years 3 to 6 students from Umina Beach Public School have been invited to participate in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools.

Areas of testing include science, computer skills, writing, English, spelling and mathematics.

Deputy principal Mr Andrew Kinniburgh said: "These competitions provide an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation.

"They are also used to monitor individual progress in a range of subject related skills and to recognise and reward achievement at all levels," he said.

All students receive a certificate and individual student report indicating which questions they answered correctly and their score compared with the rest of the students tested.

Mr Kinniburgh said: "The tests are an excellent preparation for national tests and the student report is useful for highlighting your child's strengths and areas for improvement."

Notes are available from the school office, to be returned by Wednesday, March 30.
