Housing trend discussed

The Pretty Beach Wagstaffe and District Progress Association met recently and discussed a proposal for an attached dual occupancy on the waterfront at 9 Wagstaffe Av.

The proposal is for two attached houses, each with four bedrooms and three car garages, with less than seven metre frontages to Wagstaffe Avenue.

The Association is concerned that developments such as this will place more and more stress on the area and that the existing ambience of their small bayside village will be impossible to maintain, according to the association president.

The Ferrymaster's Cottage was recently demolished for a much larger building and residents fear this trend will continue with the potential doubling of permissable development of commercially zoned blocks along Mulhal and Wagstaffe Av near the Wagstaffe shop, the president said.

Last year at the Urban Design Framework meeting, more than 150 people from the area expressed their wishes that the area should retain its existing character.

If you live in the area and would like to support the Association or the Killcare-Wagstaffe Trust, the Association meets on the second Monday of each month at 7.30pm, and the Trust meets on the first Sunday of February, May, August and November at 9.30am.
