Mollie is named NSW Lifesaver of the Year
Umina Surf Life Saving Club's director of lifesaving Mollie Murphy has given Surf Life Saving NSW's top award, being named NSW Lifesaver of the Year.
The award comes less than a month after also being named a Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards winner.
The Central Coast took out a quarter of the awards at the annual Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of Excellence presentation held in Sydney on Saturday, August 24.
These included Trainer of the Year awarded to Richard Grimmond at Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club and three at Terrigal.
"It's incredible to be the Surf Life Saver of the Year for NSW, but I've always just done it because I love it not for the recognition," Mollie said.
"It's pretty crazy but I'm very grateful.
"The community around the club I love.
"There's so many people I've grown up with and it just makes for a real family."
Mollie is the Director of Lifesaving at Umina SLSC.
"She completed nearly 150 hours of patrols this past season and is active in promoting youth within her club and the branch as well," said the club's public relations co-ordinator Mr Mike Begg.
"Her efforts, influenced by her involvement in the SLSA National Leadership College and Women's Mentoring Program, led to a significant rise in youth participation, lifesaving qualifications, and overall club pride.
"Her dedication has particularly empowered young females, driving a notable increase in their achievements within the club."
The awards night aims to recognise the achievements of more than 78,000 members across the state.
Nearly 500 volunteer lifesavers and their supporters attended the awards night.
