Major Fours women's championship won in a 'nail-biter'
Jeannette Jenkins, Helen Cooper, Maureen Jackson and Bev McFarlane have won the final of the Major Fours women's championship at Everglades Bowling Club on Thursday, August 22
"We always knew this was going to be a great game, but I don't think anyone expected it to be another nail-biter," said match committee chairperson Ms Vicki Redrup.
Deb McInnes, Val Davey, Sue O'Connor and Elaine Vincent played Jeannette Jenkins, Helen Cooper, Maureen Jackson and Bev McFarlane for the Championship.
"Elaine's team took an early lead and were leading for the majority of the game.
"Bev's team had this 'never say die' attitude and started to win ends one at the time.
"Both teams played some really incredible bowls that demonstrated great skill, determination and grit," said Ms Redrup.
On the 20th end, it was even at 19-19.
"All the supporters for both teams inside and outside were holding their breath going into the last end.
"Pressure was on to secure the win by both sides.
"Again, the ladies put down some wonderful shots trying ever so hard to get their bowl closest to the jack.
"Elaine's team were holding shot when Maureen played a bowl that wicked off two bowls and landed right next to the jack.
"It was an unbelievable shot.
"Bev and Elaine had two bowls each to go and were not able to move that winning shot, with Bev's team winning 20-19 on the last end.
