A man died on Saturday night after he slipped while attempting to board his yacht at Hardys Bay.

Allen Roper, 74, of Matcham, had been visiting friends on a nearby vessel.

A 12m yacht which drifted nearly 3km into shallow waters off Lion Island was retrieved by the Gosford Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol on Sunday.

The vessel was reported missing off Pearl Beach at 9.30am on Sunday.
