Community cleans up Burrawang surrounds

At least eight community members gathered at Nambucca Drive playground on March 6 to help clean up Woy Woy's Burrawang Reserve as part of Clean Up Australia Day.

They cleaned up the playground and other areas adjacent to the reserve, with much litter collected along Railway St.

With wheelbarrows to carry the heavier items, they also cleared metal and plastic rubbish from the reserve.

"Especially since Council removed the burnout cars last year, the reserve is slowly returning to a more natural state," said clean-up coordinator Mr Jim Morrison.

"It provides a haven for native plants and animals, including threatened species, as well as a passive recreation area for humans."

Mr Morrison said the weather was good, volunteers were enthusiastic, and "we probably had our best cleanup ever".
