Soft plastics recycling available through kerbside bin

All households on the Peninsula can now register to be part of a soft plastics recycling program, following a trial that started last November.

The program allows residents to recycle soft plastics "from the convenience and safety of their own homes" using a mobile phone app and the Council's yellow bin collection.

Bags for soft plastics were ordered through the phone app and tagged with a QR before being placed in the yellow recycling bin.

"The program is run in collaboration with Australian recyclers iQ Renew and CurbCycle," said council director Mr Boris Bolgoff.

"Currently, the program is only available to households with access to a smartphone who can access the Curby app via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store."

Mr Bolgoff said that Council staff understood that not everyone had a smartphone.

Those residents could recycle soft plastics using a nearby existing Redcycle drop-off location, which included Coles and Woolworths supermarkets.

Information about the Curby soft plastics program is available at the program website, www.curbythebilby.com.au/softplastics
