JPs wanted to work on desks

Justices of the Peace are being asked to volunteer to work on stands in Woy Woy and Umina for the Central Coast Branch of the NSW Justice Association.

"We currently run three desks each week, barring public holidays, at Deep Water Plaza on Tuesdays from 9:30am to 1; at Umina Library on Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm and Woy Woy library on Thursdays from 10am to 1pm," said branch president Mr Kevin O'Donnell.

"As a member of the NSWJA, you are covered by insurance while working on these desks," Mr O'Donnell said.

"We now have a new learning management system, available on line, which is free to members to keep us all up to date with legislation and our duty of care to the public," he said.

"Each JP is covered by a code of conduct and we can be fined for not performing our duties correctly, even though we are volunteers.

"If you are a JP and have some time available, we are always looking for new members and volunteers to man desks, as we are receiving calls for desks we can't man currently."
