Keep up the pressure
There are a few concerns I have regarding the proposed McDonalds at Umina.
Firstly that council is even considering a spot rezoning like this that is totally out of character for the area.
Are the subject sites already owned by Maccas or have they still got to be acquired by Maccas with the owner's hopefully not selling before the rezoning so that they reap the benefit of the jump in price from the rezoning?
Regarding the rezoning there are a number of issues relating to the draft Gosford LEP 2009 that the council staff consider to be of minor nature including soil, transport, car parking and not to mention the human aspect (amenity and safety) which the LEP doesn't take into account.
If the Department of Planning and Infrastructure approve this change to the LEP then Gosford Council may as well also ask the department to allow for a name change also, due to the proposed location and the big golden arches they may as well call this area McDonalds Beach.
The best thing we can do now is to bombard our local members Deborah O'Neill and Chris Holstein with letters, phone calls and emails.
Not just once but every day!
They will soon get sick of it and they may do something.
Also do the same to the Department of Infrastructure.
People power works.
Look at what happened with the coal seam gas proposal.
This is not the development for Umina we want or need.
We need to keep this objection on the minds of the people making the decisions so flood them with letters.
