Cannot believe trivial arguments

Dear, oh dear, oh dear.

I cannot believe some of the trivial arguments put up against a McDonalds opening in Umina (Peninsula News, December 12).

Clogged roundabouts, holiday makers turned away in droves, West St economy devastated, negative impact on youth in Umina, Type 2 diabetes rising again, negative impact on Woy Woy residents (how, I don't know) and sea creatures destroyed as Ronald McDonald enters Umina.

This is starting to smell like the global warming arguments as well.

Unless Maccas catches fire I don't think there will be a mass exodus from the car park.

Holiday makers turning away?

"Oh Cedric, there's a McDonalds here now.

"Let's go somewhere else like Kincumber or Gosford or Erina.

"Oh no they all have McDonalds.

"I guess it will have to be Mangrove Mountain this year then."

West St loses millions because of a McDonalds store opening.

Somehow, I don't think Woollies, Coles, the butchers, newsagent, chemists, tobacconist, hardware store, Coopers, Video Ezy, bottle shops, surf shop or even Bremen's pies are going to worry about Maccas too much.

As far as a negative impact on youth is concerned, it's a blessing to get them off the streets at night where they are looking for trouble and have a place they call their own.

The young ones don't eat on the east side of West St.

It's too expensive for them.

Nor do aged pensioners, who also welcome a place to eat that is cheap, clean and has toilet facilities and is not far from their Umina homes.

Type two diabetes is caused by many products.

Basically ban sugar from food and problem solved.

It isn't just Big Macs.

The only negative impact on Woy Woy residents is the loss of carbon monoxide fumes as the population of Umina race in their cars to Woy Woy for their Maccas fix.

And to address your negative concerns about litter, then ban beer bottles, coke cans, cigarette butts and plastic bags.

Every McDonalds I've been to provide large litter bins in store and in their car park.

If your child litters don't blame McDonalds, teachers or God, blame yourself as a poor parent for not instilling respect for their future environment.

If you want a proper debate on Umina's progress, then I suggest you put up some real arguments, not personal feelings about the bad service you must have had at one point in time with McDonalds.
