Soccer scholarships

A local fast food franchisee is encouraging local junior soccer players to apply for sports scholarships on offer through the franchise until May 22.

McDonald's Woy Woy licensee Mr John Ursino said the scholarship program offered by Football NSW in partnership with McDonald's restaurants had the potential of uncovering the next rising football star.

"Supporting football at a grassroots level is a project that McDonald's is passionate about," Mr Ursino said.

"I know the local area has a few stars in the making that would be perfect for a Junior Football Scholarship.

"Scholarships are awarded to players who have shown great improvement, who have achieved significant honours in their football career or simply have aspirations to improve their game.

"Applicants are asked to explain how the scholarship will benefit them and to detail any recent success they have had on the field."

Mr Ursino said applications for the McDonald's Junior Football Scholarships were administered by local Football NSW Associations with a panel of Football NSW High Performance Unit Officers selecting the winners, which would be awarded to both talented players and those aiming to develop their football skills and ability.

He said the McDonald's Junior Football Scholarships was available to players aged between 10 and 17 years of age.
