Tuesday, 6 January

Gosford Mayor Cr Chris Holstein said he expected the council would revisit the dredging of Ettalong channel early in February.

A hydrological survey was undertaken by NSW Maritime before Christmas and the results of the survey will be used by council officers to prepare a report for councillors. Express Advocate

Thursday, 8 January

A cane toad was discovered in Umina on December 26, posing a major threat to both native animals and domestic pets.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service believe it to be an isolated incident with the pest somehow catching a ride south from Queensland.

The service called on residents to report any further cane toad sightings. Sun Weekly

Friday, 9 January

A 31-year-old North Curl Curl man was charged with peeping tom offences after a series of incidents at Umina Beach on January 3.

Police were called to Umina Beach Surf Club after reports of a man acting suspiciously and loitering near the toilet and shower block.

The man was arrested and charged by police and will appear at Woy Woy Court on February 17. Express Advocate

Police and firefighters were called to Umina Beach at 3.50am on January 5, to find a Holden Commodore had been set alight.

The car, reported stolen from Umina Beach the previous day, was found at the entrance to Umina Oval in Etta Rd.

The blaze was extinguished by NSW Fire Brigade officers. Express Advocate

Brisbane Water Secondary College student Bradley Death has launched a bullying awareness program entitled Throwing Stones.

The 16-year-old Umina Beach resident is looking to spread the word to other bullying victims that they are not alone and have a huge support network.

Peninsula Theatre will present a theatrical production based on the problem in March. Express Advocate

Monday, 12 January

Pearl Beach resident Van Davy is seeking answers from police after his wife Jennifer died in a motor trike accident near Somersby on November 21.

The accident also left Mr Davy with severe spinal injuries.

He hopes a police investigation for the coroner provides answers including why trikes aren't required to carry seatbelts, and why other states require trike riders to be trained and carry a specific trike license.

Thursday, 15 January

Umina business owners are calling on police to return to the streets of the Peninsula at night following an ATM raid at West St, Umina, on December 20.

Several Umina business owners said they would prefer money to be spent on increasing police presence on the Peninsula instead of installing 26 CCTV security cameras throughout the area. Sun Weekly

Ocean Beach Holiday Park in Umina Beach has seen a record holiday season despite the economic downturn.

Park manager Ms Vanessa Fordyce said the downturn has worked in its favour as more families are choosing to holiday closer to home. Sun Weekly

Umina Beach surfer Drew Courtney hopes to achieve a top 10 ranking when he makes his debut in this year's Association of Professionals world tour.
