SpikeFest wins award
Last year's SpikeFest has won a Highly Commended Award from the Local Government and Shires Association.
Spikefest was recognised in the Cultural Program-Projects category of the Local Government and Shires Association's Cultural Awards presented at Parliament House on Wednesday, June 16.
More than 200 entries from across New South Wales were submitted for the awards program.
SpikeFest, the Spike Milligan Comedy Festival, was held last October at Woy Woy and various locations on the Central Coast.
It was a week of fun and comedy to celebrate the life of Spike Milligan.
Gosford Council's director of community services, Mr Phil Rowland, said the award acknowledged Council's support for cultural development in Gosford City.
"The award also recognises the months of preparation and coordination by our SpikeFest committee," Mr Rowland said.
"SpikeFest was a community-based festival acknowledging the life and art of Spike Milligan.
"It celebrated Spike's humour.
"It fostered the creative talent of people of all ages in the area of comedy and it was successful in attracting people to visit Gosford City.
"The festival was a great success and included writing competitions and workshops, music, radio broadcasts, professional comedians, a street parade, a bushwalk and community and professional organisations presented live-theatre," he said.
