Information on estuary study
Gosford Council will hold an information evening on the Brisbane Water estuary process study on Thursday, July 1, to provide insight into the research currently underway in Brisbane Water.
The research program will guide the future management of the waterway.
The forum is the first of its kind, and will see a large contingent of speakers come together to speak on the study.
The Brisbane Water Estuary Processes Study will focus on the existing physical, chemical and biological condition of the Brisbane Water Estuary and the various factors that influence its condition.
"The processes study will be used to develop the Brisbane Water Estuary Management Plan, which will be the major planning instrument for Brisbane Water and its foreshores as well as the integrated planning of its catchments," said Council's director of environmental planning, Ms Louise Gee.
"Council has taken the lead by developing this innovative program which will most probably serve as a model for other councils undertaking similar studies.
"The difference here is the study takes a holistic approach and looks at the big picture, enabling effective management of our waterways for the future.
"The information evening should be very interesting.
"Researchers and scientists from Newcastle University and other agencies will be presenting, as well as representatives from Council.
"For those in the community interested in our waterways and associated planning, they will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the researchers involved with the study.
"The presentations will cover the different aspects of the program and the techniques involved in the research.
"You can learn about the different fish, animals and plants and how natural and human processes influence their health and survival.
"Students studying the environment may also find the evening extremely useful," Ms Gee said.
The information evening will take place from 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Thursday, July 1, at the Erina Room, Erina Centre, Erina Fair.
