Mass held at school for Ash Wednesday

St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School held its Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday, March 5.

"Ash Wednesday is the annual holy day of prayer that traditionally marks the start of Lent, which occurs in the 40 days leading up to Easter," said school principal Ms Nicole Davies.

"Father Timothy reminded the children of this special time of year, when we are called to give extra love and kindness to one another, and to make promises of something we can do or give up during the season of Lent.

"The staff and students were blessed by the giving of ashes."

Each grades' promises for the season of Lent were placed on display in the front foyer.

"If you are walking by or visiting the office, we encourage you to read them as they are really beautiful."

Fr Timothy said: "Just as the trees give up something at this time of year, their leaves, they make their sacrifices, to make way for new growth underneath."
