Peninsula rains enter December just above average

The Peninsula comes into December with rainfall for the year to date slightly above average.

So far in 2024, rainfall of 1341.8mm has been recorded, according to figures supplied by Mr Jim Morrison of Umina.

This is just 3.4 per cent above the average annual rainfall of 1298mm.

The close-to-average year follows the driest year in 20 years last year, with a total of 876.1mm, and the wettest year in 20 years the previous with a total of 2118.7mm.

With a dry start in the first quarter of the year, the Peninsula's rainfall for the quarter totalled 245.6mm, just over half the average of the quarter of 456mm.

However, the following three months had above-average rainfall to bring the total for the first half of the year to 999.5mm, 22 per cent higher than the half-year average of 819mm.

Rainfall for the rest of the year has been closer to average.

November finished with 79.5mm, 17.2 per cent less than the November average of 96mm.

In the first two days of December, 23.5mm was recorded - 25 per cent of the month's average of 95mm.
