Brigade warns of 'very real' fire risk
The risk of fire is "still very real" as the weather becomes milder even through it has been a wet and cold winter, the Pearl Beach fire brigade has warned.
"Strong and gusty winds can quickly dry out grasses and shrubs, making them more susceptible to wildfires," the brigade said in a social media post, citing a fast-moving grass fire which prompted an Emergency Warning for residents.
"This is the highest level of alert issued by NSW RFS, indicating a serious and imminent threat.
"Residents in the affected area received instructions via SMS, either to evacuate or, if evacuation was too dangerous, to shelter in place.
"This incident is a timely reminder that wildfire risks can arise even before the formal Bush Fire Danger Period begins."
