Difficult to believe

It is difficult to believe that Mr Hale actually said all the things quoted in the news item "Hale Supports High Rise" (Peninsula News, June 14).

Since when has Ettalong been a CBD?

Gosford yes and perhaps Woy Woy but definitely not the small places along the coast.

Just look at what has happened to Gosford since Erina and Tuggerah have been developed.

If you insist on building more and more large shopping centres, there are never going to be enough people.

I had never understood before that communities only exist in order to create jobs. Many people agree that Umina, Ocean Beach and Ettalong are not dying; they are being pushed over the edge.

Experience in many parts of the world shows that the more people squashed into an area, the higher the crime rate, unless that place is controlled by a mafia-type organisation.

Mr Hale is correct though in stating that we cannot return to the fishing villages of the past.

In the interim, people have become accustomed to picking up their weekly shopping in their car.

So just where has increased population successfully reduced traffic?

An increased population will require more water. Does Mr Hale have a magic wand?
