Fete supports religious education

A fete and garage sale organised by the Religious Education Ministries, to support local religious education teachers, will be conducted at Brisbane Water Secondary College, Umina Campus on Saturday, April 2.

The fete, to be held between 8am and 1pm, will include trash and treasure, second hand books, farmyard nursery, Devonshire tea, a sausage sizzle, a jumping castle, face painting, cakes, plants and craft items.

The Religious Education Ministries employs qualified teachers to teach religion in Brisbane Water Secondary College in both campuses.

This ministry is now in its 16th year, beginning at Umina High in 1989 and expanding to Woy Woy High in 1995.

During this time the teachers have taught religion, and have been actively involved in sport, music, school camps and other areas in which their talents and interests lie.

They have also run lunchtime groups and taken students to Christian concerts and camps.

Crisis counselling and pastoral duties have also been part of their work in the college.

The work is financed by eight local churches, Rotary, sponsorship by local businesses and through fundraising activities.

This year, the number of teachers employed has been reduced to two due to financial constraints.

The fete is the group's major fundraiser for the year.

Proceeds of the fete will go to Religious Education Ministries, run by local churches.

The donation of goods is welcome and a representative for the ministries has requested donations be delivered to the school hall on Friday, April 1 from 4pm.
