Peninsula group pampers homeless people
Jo Brannigan was washing her hair when she realised how lucky she was.
The thought has morphed into a group of Peninsula residents heading off to Sydney on February 23 to pamper homeless people.
"There's more to life than food and shelter and many things we used to think of as luxuries we now consider necessities,'' Ms Brannigan said.
"But we tend to forget that those things are not available to some in the community, the homeless for instance.
"For those people, even food and shelter are a struggle so anything more can seem an impossibility.
"When we need a pep-up, we get a manicure or a facial or something but homeless people can't.
"So that's the idea, to offer them a little pampering, and also to engage with them.''
Ms Brannigan has a group of about 10 people going with her to Sydney's 24/7 Street Kitchen Safe Space in Martin Place.
But more volunteers are welcome.
"If you can do manicures, pedicures, haircuts, beard trims, hand massage, facials, or donate shampoos, facial cleansers, disposable gloves, toothpaste or brushes, or some other little service that can give a welcome feeling of comfort to a homeless person please contact us on 0422 278 081,'' she said.
