Resident meet with Greens MP to oppose Sporties' DA

Local residents and campaigners met with Greens MP Mr David Shoebridge outside Woy Woy Bowling club on Thursday, August 8, to call for the Joint Regional Planning Panel to reject the redevelopment of the site.

Save Woy Woy Waterfront president Mr Ross Cochrane said the proposal for 63 seniors housing units was "highly contentious" because the site was flood prone.

"The local campaign has been given strong support by a fresh report from Central Coast Council that has recommended the development be rejected by the Joint Regional Planning Panel," he said.

"Our group has been saying all along that this site is unsuitable and the development must not be permitted."

Mr Shoebridge said: "This proposal should never have got to first base.

"The site is wrong, the zoning is wrong and its bulk and scale is offensive.

"Seniors housing on this site would expose older people to the risk of being trapped in floodwaters.

"This risk will only increase as a result of climate change."
