Man charged with drink driving
A 57-year-old man from Empire Bay has been charged with high-range drink driving after he smashed into two council road barriers in Ettalong on Sunday, July 28.
Police were in The Esplanade, Ettalong, at about 6:10pm on another matter when they heard a screech of tyres and a smashing sound.
They ran to the road where they saw a man in the driver's seat of a vehicle parked across the northern lane.
The front end of the vehicle was smashed and stopped against two council road barriers in the middle of the road between lanes.
Police ran to the vehicle and saw the man attempting to drive the vehicle away.
He was directed to get out of the vehicle and turn the engine off.
Police said they directed him to the kerb where they said they could smell alcohol and the man appeared unsteady on his feet.
The man was requested 10 times to submit to a roadside breath test but was unable to provide a sufficient sample.
He was placed under arrest and conveyed to Woy Woy Police Station where he was subjected to a breath analysis which returned a high range reading.
He had his licence automatically suspended.
He will appear in Woy Woy Local Court on August 27.
