Weekend of crimes may be linked
Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Woy Woy and a home invasion in Umina on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, respectively.
About 10:45pm on Friday, a 48-year-old man was about to ride his bicycle home from a club on Dunban Rd, Woy Woy, when he became involved in an argument with four men in the car park.
During the incident he was allegedly surrounded by the group and assaulted sustaining grazing, bruising and swelling to his body.
His attackers then fled the scene with his mobile phone.
Officers from Brisbane Water Local Area Command are also investigating a home invasion and malicious damage at Umina and believe all three incidents may be linked.
At about 1am on Saturday, May 18, three people were inside their house on Breeze St when two men forced their way into the premises.
One of the men, who was armed with a pair of scissors, demanded alcohol.
The three occupants were able to lock themselves in a room before the two men left the premises.
Minutes later a group of men walked to a house on Forest Rd, Umina Beach where they allegedly damaged the fence by throwing bottles at it.
The occupants of the home came out before getting into a verbal altercation with four men.
They later fled the scene.
A 21-year-old man, allegedly involved in the assault at Woy Woy, was arrested by police a short time later.
He was charged with steal from person, assault and goods in custody and refused bail.
He appeared in Gosford Local Court on Sunday, May 19.
Investigators are now appealing for witnesses to the incidents and are attempting to identify the men.
One of the men has been described as having blond hair and wearing a white hooded top.
Another had long hair and was wearing a black t-shirt.
A third man was wearing a black hooded top while the fourth man was not described.
Police urge anyone who witnessed the four men in the Woy Woy and Umina area early or know their identity and whereabouts to come forward.
