Courtney bows out
Umina surfer Drew Courtney has bowed out in round three of the Pro Surfing contest at the Gold Coast on March 9.
The 30-year-old rookie was defeated by world number three Australian surfer Taj Burrow in heat 13 of round three.
Courtney scored 11.16 which was not enough to make it through to the next round after Burrow scored 13.74.
However, round two of competition saw Courtney (13.60) pull off an upset by defeating world number nine Bobby Martinez (12.53).
The competition is the opening event of the Association of Surfing Professional World Tour in which Courtney qualified for in December last year.
He has been competing for the World Qualifying Series for more than 10 years until his big break in Hawaii last year.
