Foam inserted in oval
Umina oval has received maintenance recently as work begun to insert water retaining foam in the field's surface.
The technology is a first to the Central Coast and involves the insertion of a product called Fytofoam into the root zone of the playing field.
Gosford Council claimed in a media release that this improved surface drainage and the foam structure absorbs water and nutrients, retaining them to allow grass to hydrate as needed, cutting water usage by approximately 70 per cent.
It is estimated that the project will save up to eight megalitres of water a year.
Council received $36,364 through round two of the Federal Community Water Grants to help assist with the funding of the project.
Further funding is being provided by a joint partnership between Gosford Council and the main users of the oval, Umina Public School, Umina Rugby League Club and Umina Soccer Club.
The insertion of the foam began on Monday, January 29, and continued until Wednesday, January 31.
