Skateboard event has $10,000 in prizes

A skateboarding event with $10,000 in prizes will be held at the Umina Skate Park on Saturday, February 22.

The event, Umina Beach Overboard Skate Jam, will be "presented by" the Umina Community Group and "organised by" Totem Skateboarding.

It has attracted more than 20 sponsors, including Central Coast Council.

The event will run from 9am to 3pm and will have seven events, covering under-10, under-12, under-16 and open age groups.

It is billed as "bringing some of Australia's heaviest riders to Umina Beach for the Peninsula's biggest skateboarding event" with the offer to "grab cash for the best tricks" and a "secret after-party".

The under-age sections will compete in street categories, while the open section will have both bowl and street competition.

Each age group will have a maximum of 20 competitors, with a cap of 10 per gender for mixed sessions.

Three wild card entries will be held for each age group.

Entrants may apply for these spots with the final wild card spots given out by the organisers.

Each skatepark jam will last 30 minutes with three obstacles of 10 minutes each for the 20 skaters.

The bowl jam will be for 45 minutes.

The "cash grab" will be for the open section only.

"Please be aware that the open riders will be of an advanced level, so we recommend registering interest for your age group and considering the open runs on the day," said the organisers.

"We will endeavour to get everyone a spot.

"Pre-register your interest to have the best chance of being involved."

Participants must complete an online waiver form before they can skate.

The event may be cancelled due to the weather.

Helmets are mandatory for all participants under 18 years and will be supplied on the day.
