Grants for projects engaging older people

Not-for-profit organisations developing projects that engage older people within their communities are being encouraged to apply for grant funding under the Connecting Seniors grant program.

Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch said the program aimed to support the growing ageing population in New South Wales.

"These grant funding support activities can provide a real social lifeline for seniors, especially for those living alone."

One in three people on the Peninsula is aged 60 or over.

She said seniors deserved quality of life and quality of life was dependent upon connection.

"Connected people are happier people and happier people are better able to cope with tough times.

"With life's challenges, connected people feel safer, loved and cared for.

"We encourage not-for-profit organisations with a vision for enhancing the quality of life of our older population to pursue these important projects."

"Not for profit organisations can apply for grants of $20,000 for new projects and $30,000 for enhancements and/or expansions of existing projects."

Grant applications close on October 25.
