Rugs and blankets donated to palliative care project
The Woy Woy branch of the Country Women's Association has made more than 200 lap rugs, 20 bed-size crocheted blankets and 20 patchwork quilts for the Elsie's Retreat palliative care project.
"Opening soon within Gosford Hospital, the inpatient centre is specially designed for adult palliative patients requiring acute symptom management," said branch president Ms Jane Bowtell.
"Some of these patients will be able to return home.
"However the centre will also provide support and care for those patients, and their families, who cannot be cared for at home in the last days of life."
Ms Bowtell said each blanket or rug would be used by the one patient.
"They will be gifted to the patients family after their passing as a beautiful keepsake to remember their loved one.
"Central Coast residents will, for the first time ever, have a choice between receiving palliative care at home or in a hospital setting.
"Almost nine years in the making, it will be the first centre of its kind on the Central Coast."
