Wicks defends need for St Huberts bridge barrier project

Member for Robertson Ms Lucy Wicks has defended the need for the $900,000 St Huberts Island bridge barrier project, but has recognised resident concerns about the design.

"I was proud to fund the project, announced during the 2019 election," she said.

"Residents and members of the residents association had contacted me over the years with concerns of people jumping from the bridge.

"I have spoken to a number of residents about this, all of whom have raised this as a potential safety issue."

However, Ms Wicks said: "Residents have raised their concerns about the lack of consideration of the visual amenity with the current design.

"I understand how important it is to these residents that the upgrades to the bridge reflect the pride of place that St Huberts Island residents have for their suburb.

"I have brought this to the attention of Central Coast Council," she said.

"Since the original design was put forward to residents, I have been working with the St Huberts Island Residents' Association on this issue.

"I will continue to work with Council and the residents' association to ensure that a satisfactory outcome is achieved.

"I will continue to work with the residents around St Huberts Island to deliver a safer bridge for all residents to benefit from."
