Hosts wanted for mental health barbecues
A grassroots men's mental health charity is seeking volunteers to host barbecues on the Peninsula as meeting places for men.
The aim of the Mr Perfect group is to provide men with a place of support, community and connection for the good of their mental health.
The "pre-crisis" charity started on Sydney's northern beaches, and has spread to locations across Australia.
Founder Mr Terry Cornick said the barbecues were started to give men feeling isolated in their community or battling with mental health problems an outlet to talk about their issues.
He said a group had been running at The Entrance and that Woy Woy was an ideal area to re-launch on the Coast.
He said the Mr Perfect barbecues had become successful as they emphasised building social connections and community camaraderie over traditional counselling.
Mr Cornick said he was keen to hear from community-minded men who were prepared to host barbecues.
"A great host is usually someone with a big community focus, a great listener, has organised basic events previously, and is generally an organised person with an interest in mental health," he said.
Anyone interested in becoming a host or learning more about the charity should visit the Mr Perfect website.
