Rotary has lawyer as guest speaker

The Rotary of Woy Woy recently welcomed lawyer Mr Darrell Pannowitz as a guest speaker.

Mr Pannowitz, a partner in Woy Woy law firm Tonkin and Drysdale Partners, spoke to Rotarians about wills and powers of attorney.

"Mr Pannonwitz spoke on the importance of being prepared for life's uncertainties by having your affairs in order, lest important decisions be made for you by a NSW state appointee should you fall on hard times physically, mentally or financially," said club publicity officer Mr Vic Deeble.

"He also outlined the role someone issued with the power of attorney has, as well as the different levels within the role.

"He continued with guardianship which is relevant to health care and then spoke about how power of attorney, guardianship and wills intersect, further emphasising the importance of having an understanding of these terms as you get your affairs in order," Mr Deeble said.

Mr Pannowitz then gave Rotarians several examples of situations where these three provisions came into contact and how they could impact the results of a person's will.

"He concluded his presentation by encouraging Rotarians to consider purchasing a will kit from their local newsagency and to continue to educate themselves on the topic."

Mr Deeble said Mr Pannowitz made what could have been a dry subject interesting with many compelling examples.
