Bailey makes finals of Ironman trials
A Umina Beach Surf Life Saving Club member competed in the Ironman Series trials at Queensland's Coolum Beach on September 7.
Bailey Johns was one of 20 finalists to take part in the trials with all competitors vying for one of just six entries into the Ironman Series proper.
While he didn't progress to the top six, club president Mr Stephen Scahill said Bailey had gained some invaluable experience at the sport's elite level.
"Bailey took part in the trials for the racing experience and although he put in many hours of training during the off season, he didn't think he'd make it this far or have the chance to race as a finalist.
"Bailey also mentioned that the experience allowed him to learn that there are still many areas in which he can improve on and that he's looking forward to the season ahead," Mr Scahill said.
