Schools open for Education Week

Schools across the Peninsula celebrated NSW Education Week from August 5 to 9 with open days.

Ettalong Public School held its open day on August 6.

The day started with a cupcake sale and morning tea followed by an open classrooms tour.

After a barbecue lunch, students and guests were invited to the library for the opening of a book fair before the day culminated in the opening of Upcycled Downunder Art Show and silent auction.

Umina Beach Public School held its open day on August 7.

The festivities started with open classrooms, followed by a picnic lunch and a cake stall fundraiser for the charity Stewart House.

After lunch, parents and carers were invited to watch the school's Athletics Carnival 100m dash finals at Umina Oval or to tour the book fair at the school library.

At Woy Woy South Public School, parents and carers were invited into the classrooms on August 8 and to enjoy student guided tours of the school.

Woy Woy Public School also had open classrooms August 8, with parents and carers invited to tour the school and enjoy a barbecue lunch.

Pretty Beach Public School also held its open day on August 8.

The day started with a family picnic which was followed by a commemorative assembly that reflected on what the school had achieved and celebrated in the past year, and then open classrooms.

Brisbane Water Secondary College Umina campus held an open afternoon on August 7 and the Woy Woy campus an HSC Showcase evening on August 6.

The event was a celebratory showcase of the multiple programs and opportunities offered to students and included hands-on activities, displays and games and student performances from the Creative and Performing Arts Units.

The event ended with a sausage sizzle dinner and a lucky door prize featuring book packs and school uniform items.

HSC Showcase at Woy Woy included performances from the College's HSC Music and Drama students, displays from visual arts, photography, industrial technology, and society and culture students.

Hospitality students catered for the evening.
